Mashes Island County Park
Letter_e.gif (1226 bytes)xplore a unique coastal marsh belt ecosystem where marsh grass gives way to a coastal beach. Mash Island State Park is home to bizarre landscapes. Lots of savanna, tidal creeks and wide open sky. Mash Island is remote and secluded, and always great for bird-watching. This is a perfect area for families with kids as there are always low water levels. The marshkids_water.gif (29693 bytes) grass gives way to a small secluded beach which is ideal for sunbathing. The tidal marsh pools are absolutely  incredible and invite your exploration.

Alligator Point
With ten miles of secluded beach and no motels, stores or real development, you might be the only person in sight all day. There are single family homes that can be rented by the week or month that front directly on the beach. Many wild areas to explore and lots of sunny seclusion on the beach. Be sure to bring picnic supplies and drinks if you plan on staying for any amount of time. There are no camping, picnic, or other facilities available. For beach rental information at Alligator Point, call Ochlockonee Bay Realty at (850) 984-0001 or Coastal Shores Realty at (850) 984-5800.

Shell Point Beach
Shell Point Beach is the sailing spot of choice for members of the Shell Point Sailboard Club. Shell Point is about 45 minutes south of Tallahassee, Florida, and is located on the northern edge of Apalachee Bay. Although the beach was previously under private ownership, members of the SPSC and local activists of Wakulla County petitioned the State of Florida for grant money to purchase the beach, fearing loss of access due to condominium development. Grant monies were awarded to Wakulla County in December, 1995, and Shell Point Beach is now managed by the Wakulla County Parks and Recreation Department.
Beach facilities are limited; however, the SPSC provides water, drying racks, and sailing camaraderie to its members and visiting sailors. Immediately adjacent to the park, Shell Point Resort offers a restaurant, motel, RV camping, and full marina services. They can be reached at (850) 926-7162.
